Essay Writing Basics - How to Write an Essay That Will Sway Your ReaderIf you're stuck on some sort of essay writing rut, I'm sure you are familiar with the fundamentals of essay writing. And by fundamentals I mean that every good essay begins with a good thesis statement, a strong idea. We all know what an idea is, right?Well that's not really the point, the point is that if you get it right, an idea will give you a hook that will keep your reader hanging on your every word, and if you don't get it right then you'll be wasting all of your effort in trying to persuade them to believe in your argument. (This is called persuasion.)In order to get your reader hooked to your essay, your idea must be strong, compelling, and a good idea. There's no way around this. If you cannot make your idea a strong point, your whole writing project is doomed. Your readers will stop reading.Now a weak idea might be a good idea. But for most people it will just be a poor idea. I'm guessing that you were curious to learn how to write an essay and came to this article because you want some ways to help you become a better writer, and I think the first step in that direction is to master the fundamentals of essay writing.So, let's assume for a moment that you have a good idea, and it is a good idea. You can help your readers understand your idea by coming up with a thesis statement. What is your thesis statement? How will your thesis statement to support your argument?A thesis statement is like the cornerstone of your entire essay. If you neglect to come up with a good thesis statement, then your entire essay is doomed.Your thesis statement must be strong, or else it's not a good idea at all. It's best to write it yourself so that you can go back over it later and polish it up. But as a rule of thumb, a thesis statement is: 'My idea has a strong underlying theme.'All too often, someone comes up with an original idea and then has trouble coming up with the thesis statement. But you can avoid all of this trouble if you pay attention to the fundamentals of essay writing and make sure that your thesis statement is strong and well-supported.
